Why Isn't Your Website Ranking on Google? 7 Common Reasons
"We can't be found on Google" is one of the most common questions we hear. It usually comes down to one of seven causes - and most can be checked in a few minutes.
1. The page is accidentally set to "noindex"
A single meta tag can make an entire page invisible to Google. This often happens after a website relaunch, when a development setting accidentally goes live.
2. The page is simply too new
Google needs time to discover and understand new pages - often several days to weeks. Without submitting a sitemap in Search Console, it can take even longer.
3. No external links point to the page
Backlinks are a strong trust signal for Google. A page with zero inbound links tends to rank slower and lower - even when everything technical is correct.
4. robots.txt accidentally blocks the entire site
A single "Disallow: /" line in robots.txt is enough to lock Google out completely. This happens more often than you'd think - usually by accident.
5. Too little or duplicate content
Pages with very little text, or content that's identical across multiple pages, get classified by Google as low-value and ranked accordingly low.
6. Wrong canonical link
If the canonical tag accidentally points to a different URL, the page is essentially telling Google: "Rank the other version instead."
7. The page moved without a redirect
After a relaunch or URL change without a 301 redirect, the old, already-indexed URL loses its ranking - and the new one has to start from zero.
The Seoly check verifies in seconds whether your page is indexable, whether robots.txt and sitemap are set up correctly, and exactly where the problem lies.
